Revlon Custom Creations Foundation

Ted Gibson created a shampoo and conditioner that you can customize. Now you can customize your foundation!
Revlon's Custom Creations Foundation allows you to "dial" your prefect shade by just a swivel of the top.
I am curious to try after seeing this in my local target because I haven't tried Revlon's foundations due to the fact that they are in-between shades.

Au Revoir 2007!

In the final hours of 2007, I'm reflecting on what a year it has been!
In the first half we lost two Style Icons- Anna Nicole and Isabella Blow.
Fashion brought us Affordability ( Target and Proenza Schouler, SJP's Bitten), Brights and bold hues that were wearable from the beach to the office. Yes, we loved the bright yellow, pinks and aquamarines. Fall brought us the new black- grey!

Beauty brought us beautiful fuchsia hued bold lips as seen on Sascha in the Dior S/S '07 bag campaign. Smokey Eyes that were transformed from day to night- and everyone taught us how to do them! From Stila's fool-proof smoky eye palette to MAC's Smoke Signal's collection. Gone is the black liner and on to comfort in Navy's, Plum's and Forest Green's.
We also learned how to conceal sans the "look at me" makeup with Touche Eclat and later this year with MAC's Studio Lights.
Mineral Makeup was a battlefield, everyone is jumping on the band wagon and wants some of the Bare Minerals pie. From High-end to Drugstore, we've seen it all. Cover girl, Physicians to Sheer Cover and MAC.

Over all I am greatful for all of the people I have met this year, places I have been and events that have happened. It was great seeing my Icon- Christian Lacroix in the Jardin de Tulleries for Fashion week in October,of course, I aspire to meet him one day ( a girl can dream). Meeting Nadege, Sara and Jeremy Scott. Being able to spend time in the South of France and Paris, seeing that designers care to make a difference by putting models of color on the runways ( Heatherette).

So what is there to expect next year?

I hope to see:
* Bold lips, Fuchsia, Pink's and Magentas
* Super natural skin
* More colors that work with various skin tones.

Style wise:
* Bold accessories
* More dresses ( sweater, trapeze)

I 2008 I can't wait for:

1. MAC for Heatherette ( March '08)
2. MAC for Fafi ( Feb '08)
3. M&M's New Albums ( Madonna and Mariah's)
4. NERD's New Album ( Spring 2008)
5. Michel Gondry's New Movie ( Be Kind Rewind)
6. The Calvin Klein Heals that I am coveting ( in Electric Blue)
7. Peace and Happiness

Have a Great New Year everyone!

Happy 2008!

Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2008 Campaign

Here is Naomi in Louis Vuitton's new ad. I think her shoes are sexy!
I have to say, I love anything that features the Supers! I'm so excited for this Louis V S/S 08 campaign with the Richard Prince Vuitton bags.. so lovely. The last time I was really into Vuitton's ads were the fall '04 campaign with Christina Ricci and Scarlet Johanson.
I especially like the preview pics that have been lurking around and the sneak preview video on Style.com
December 28th is when style will show the whole Behind the Scene's shoot.
Until then, You can check out the LV runway show ( and longest DaftPunk and Kanye West remix) on Louisvuitton.com.
I'll keep my eyes peeled on the Feb issues of mags that will feature the pics from Natalia ( not a super), Eva, Stephanie and Naomi as I will not be on the waiting list for these bags... ok, maybe I will be.

Happy Holidays everyone as I head to Vegas for X-mas tomorrow!

Rihanna on Allure January 2008

I love Allure, I've been a faithful reader since '93- have gone through the supermodel on the cover phase and now the actress and singer covers.
My relationship with Linda Wells is bittersweet. Why? because the last Black woman on the cover was Eve in 2005. Instyle has a woman of color on their covers more often than Allure, same with Cosmo and Self.
Finally, we can start the 2008 with Rihanna. I'm happy but also question, why hasn't Halle been on the cover of Allure yet? and Are women of color like the trends featured in the mag- an every 2-3 year phase?

I still ponder.

Holiday 2007 for the dudes

Brother, Father, Crush, BF or Best-friend. Here are my list of top 5's for those special dudes.

* Video Games or Consoles- What guy doesn't love video games? or rather, have you ever asked for anything while they are playing video games.. isn't the answer always yes?
How about these:
- Mario vs. Sonic
- Final Fantasy
- Rock Band

* Men's skin care- Though many do not admit it, they care about their looks but don't want the comments. Help them preserve thy sexy without telling the world.
- Anthony Logistics at Sephora- perfect for travel and hiding from discerning roommates and he can stop using your Queen Helene Mint Julep mask.

* Sports Jersey's- Football, Football( soccer), Baseball -whateve. For that sports junky in your life.

* Dinner- the best way to someone's heart..right?

* Get away- its economical. Plus the imagination runs wild. It could be 30 minutes or an hour, pack a lunch, get some gas, take the metro or walk somewhere that escapes the everyday.

Holiday 2007 for that special lady

21 days to go till X-mas, 22 more days to go till Kwanza. Whatever holiday you celebrate, you shouldn't have to go broke finding the perfect gift for everone.. and sorry to disappoint but there is no perfect gift.
Here is a run down of 5 items or ideas that can satisfy, whether it be your Mom, Nana, Auntie, or your mentor.

* Best of Benefit- If she loves makeup, what better than presenting her with all the favorites of Benefit, plus what woman doesn't love Benefit? The kit from Sephora includes Eye Bright, BAD Gal Lash and Dallas Bronzer.

*Merry Citrus by Bliss Spa- R&R economically. The kit includes Lemon and Sage Body butter, Body Scrub and Soapy Soap in a signature box.. All you need is loofah spa gloves ( Target $1) and a "Do not Disturb" sign and she is good to go.

* A Tea Set- Its classic, refined and brings back memories. Plus, Tea Set= Tea and bonding over old stories while sipping on Earl Grey or Passion Fruit tea (my fave).

* Coupons for tasks- Ok so you are on a budget, but you don't want to discount the fact that your funds are low.. so volunteer to do some chores. Yes, this could be a reminder of 4th or 5th grade but it still works.

*Photo Collage- Did you guys go on a trip this year? Family Reunion? Spent Mother's day or Easter together? Put a collage together of those memories!

Coming up next: Holiday 2007 for Him.

So Stylistic!

Yes, I know it has been since last week that I have posted but, I have some good news for BOC's out there!
MAC's Stylistics collection is the one for us! I'm so happy I held on to B-day change to get the goodies from here.
So what am I wearing?
*Sheer Mystery Powder in Dark Secret. The coverage is a step up from their Blot Powder and more in line with their Sheer Select powder. I was extremely happy that the undertones in these ones are a lot warmer than the SMP that came with the Couture collection last year- they just didn't work. Though one thing to take away, like last year, these baby's come with a refill!

*Sheerspark Pressed Powder in Fashionette. I love this! I would decribe the color as "pink berry". The color really pops and MAC doesn't make one like this- a vivid "pink berry" but subtle sparkles. Love it on the apples of my cheeks.

* Lipglass in Hyper-Chic. LOVES IT!! The texture is smooth, the color - I covet, a nice pink that is great for day and doesn't make you look like you are trying to hard to sport pink during the day.

Aww, Stylistics how I love thee.. let me count the ways.

M.A.C for Fafi- clue?

In Sept, Badgley Mischka 's Spring/Summer '08 Make-up showcased beautiful fucshia lips created by MAC from cream color bases and on WWD.com's MAC backstage updates listed MAC Eyeshadow in All That Glittters from the MAC for Fafi collection... interesting.

Review: YSL Touche Eclat vs. MAC Studio Lights

In the left corner, we have YSL's Touche Eclat. Tested and approved by all Beauty Editors and Beauty buffs alike. Its easy application and coverage makes this a great highlighter and concealer. Pronounced- "Toosh Eh Claw" and currently has 4 shades.

In the right corner, we have MAC Cosmetic's Studio Lights. This wand was introduced last year as part of the Catherine Deneuve collection, went into hiding and emerged with some friends (5 in total).

They both have the same function- making you flawless. But not all products that claim the same are made or more-less treated the same.

User-Friendliness- goes to YSL, the brush applicator is great for on the go. I like MAC's doe-foot applicator but it reminds me of their other products...say lipglass?

Shade Selection- Hands down MAC. Plus they are readily available at all the counters. I heard that YSL doesn't readily stock their #4's. I think that if they did- Beauties of color would have a chance to try something great. On another note- since the Studio Lights are Limited Edition- stock up before the end of the year.

Consistency- YSL is a bit more opaque and quite thick for a highlighter concealer, though you get great coverage from Studio Lights.. this one is a tie.

Price- MAC. You can't beat .17 ml, $14.50 for Studio Lights compared to .1 oz, $39.50 for Touche Eclat.

Winner- M.A.C

Happy Birthday to Me

Ok, so I am late so it's more like Happy Belated Birthday since the official date was November 22nd. Woo hoo!
I had a great time with friends and family this Thanksgiving!
Black Friday... was another story. I wasn't out to shop at 4am... I shopped at 8am and was vastly disappointed.
Yes, there was the Victoria's Secret 2 for $20 Very Sexy Collection deal but I was in a wasteland being trampled by early birds at Fashion Valley Mall.

I am happy to report my love for Christian Lacroix Rouge that I received on Thursday. I adore it. This is the woodsy, warmth fragrance that I have been looking for. I love the citrus notes, its definitely one I can interchange with my MAC Creations MV1.

Preview: MAC in 2008

be good...really good.
Word on the street is Heatherette for MAC in Feb/March and that it's a full collection with Metallic Hot Pink. Side question: Judging by Heatherette's S/S '08 runway show ( 10 Beauty's of Color opening the show) will the pink be BOC friendly? I sure do hope so. Side question #2: Will Amanda Lepore be the spokesmodel? Wouldn't whe be perfect considering MAC's moto ( paraphrasing ( all ages, races and sexes)).

As the MAC Cosmetics year closes out..next year promises to
In addition to Heatherette for MAC, Fafi for MAC. The French design borderline risqué cartoon novelties will have a collection with MAC as well.
It's so nice to see them digging back into their indie roots... this year's Barbie for MAC kinda scared me there for a bit.

The Angels have landed!

Yes, The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2007 is actually filming today but will air on December 4th. I'm also excited to watch.
Why? Because:
1.I love all the remixed catwalk music.
2. The great holiday ideas for your lingerie ( who knew that you can revive so things in your boudoir with some ribbons and extra lace.
3. The fact that this year I have counted ( so far) 4 beauties of color! Selita and Oluchi ( from 2005 and 2006) and now we have our Beauté du Jour Noemi Lenoir and Maybelline's new spokesmodel Jessica White! I'm over the moon.
4. MAKEUP, MAKEUP, MAKEUP!
Can't wait to recreate the looks!

Rocawear Beauté?

WWD.com reports that Arden just inked a beauty deal with Rocawear (owned by Jay-Z).
Are we ready for a lipgloss named "Hov"? Probably not. But I can see some grooming for the gents.. I'm curious to see what they have for the ladies.

Colette loves Jeremy Scott loves LA!

Paper magazine is Lovin' LA this week. Wednesday night I had the pleasure of going to Colette's Thriller Dance Party hosted by Jeremy Scott and Paper Magazinein LA at the Montmarte Lounge in Hollywood. I had a blast! Sir. Ryan Heffington taught us all the dance moves to the now 25 year old iconic song and video. Sarah and Nadege of Colette were the kindest and sweetest women in the room and the vibe of the night was sans precocious. BTW..can you spot me in any of these pics? ( hint , I'm wearing a pretty sweet headband)
To top it off- MAC Cosmetics was the sponsor so we had a beavy of zombies ready to get their Russian Red and Diva lipsticks ready to Rock Steady.
Thank you Jeremy
Merci Sarah and Nadege
Thank you Ryan Heffington
Thanks Paper Magazine

Ok, I know that this is my 3rd post about this collection.. but I seriously can't wait- it comes out a week after my birthday and I have been damn good this year ( hehe)

Hones-tly it brightens my day!

Amist all the craziness that ensued last week with the fires, I managed to work in some retail therapy. I walked into Bath and Body Works/ White Barn and walked out with a bag equivalent to lifting weights.
One of the heaviest items happens to be the best smelling- Sarah Ferguson's Hones-ty candle. Its heavenly, Rose and Ginger- I never would have thought I would love something that smelled so frou-frou.
You can find it on www.bathandbodyworks.com under candles.

Wearing Nothing Is Divine.. Naked Is A State Of Mind

MAC's Of Beauty collection will bring something different to the vanity next month. Considering everyone is gearing up for their holiday goodies, Of Beauty will showcase highlighters ( Studio Lights) and Powders ( Beauty Powders) created to enhance our features.
Studio Lights were also featured in the Catherine Denueve Icon collection last year and Beauty powders have been popping up in collections since 2005. Here is the rundown courtesy of Specktra.net
Beauty Powder/Loose
Dancing Light - Creamy gold with white gold reflect (Permanent at Pro Stores)
Drizzlegold - Fleshy beige with copper and gold reflect (Permanent at Pro Stores)
Natural Flare - Peachy champagne with white and gold reflect (Permanent at Pro Stores)
Sunspill - Coral peach with white and gold reflect (New, Limited Edition)
Tenderdusk - Soft pink with red and gold reflect (New, Limited Edition)
Soft Flame - Rich plum with reddish copper reflect (New, Limited Edition)
Studio Lights
Skin Lure - Soft creamy beige (Repromote, Limited Edition)
Ideal Pink - Palest pinkish beige (Repromote, Limited Edition)
Smoothspice - Caramel (Repromote, Limited Edition)
Frangipan - Pale golden yellow (New, Limited Edition)
Sand - Soft peachy beige (New, Limited Edition)
Brushes
183 Flat Buffer Brush - Short, full, circular buffing brush with flattened top made of natural fibres (New, Limited Edition)
188 Small Duo Fibre Brush (Permanent at all locations)
222 Tapered Blending Brush (Permanent at all locations)

I hope they make something comparable to YSL's Touche éclat #4 because its my favorite. Which brings me to ponder- Since YSL is doing so well with this product, is MAC jumping on the bandwagon? And if so, look at Givenchy and Dior who also make higlighter pens, is MAC targeting Gen X, Y and Me to enhance instead of cover..

McQueen Lemming- Black Karat

First , I would like to send thoughts and prayers to all of those in the effected areas of the fires here in San Diego. Hopefully everything will be contained soon.

On Friday, I mosied over to the MAC counter and checked out McQueen. I was a bit concerned because I didn't think the collection would correspond with my skin tone. I was wrong. Having purchased Archtype l/s and Haunting eyeshadow on MAC's website. I wasn't sure what to expect. I am excited I took a chance.

At the counter, I encountered Black Karat- described as Black with Gold pearl. Its beautiful and creates a unique Smokey Eye. How unique? Its wearable and can be layered with the eyeshadows that accompany the collection.

MAC Stylistics Collection

Like last year's Diamond adorned couture collection- MAC Cosmetics will up the ante on November 29th with their Luxe collection- Stylistics. Here is a sneak peak of what to expect for the holiday's. Back in August , we heard about the exclusive fragrance and the exclusivity of the fragrance and the line.
Why am I so excited? because Alek Wek ( our one of our Beauté du Jour's is the campaign model!)
So far there will be 4 lipsticks, 4 lipglasses,4 diamond powders,3 sheer mystery powders, 3 brush sets and 1 luxe bag.
Here's a pic of the pearl encrusted compact from W's November issue.
Alek's pic is courtesy of Specktra.net

Paris Fashion Week SS'08- Christian Lacroix

Oh yes, My dream was so close..yet so far away ( about 4 feet and 2 gates away).
On October 3rd, I went down to the Jardin de Tulleries in France and checked out the Christian Lacroix show. Though I spectated outside of the Press and Standing lines, I was heaving with excitement! I loved the music ( a mix of MIA and some whimsical stuff..anyone have the runway soundtrack out there?)
For about 30 minutes, I was in heaven and when the show was over I walked around and got the shock of my life ( thus far). CHRISTIAN LACROIX being interviewed for FTV. I waved and he acknowledged. I still have my grin on to this day. I was told by a couple that I should have "namesake dropped".. I was just happy to see Monsieur Lacroix and his greatness. Maybe next time.
I am hoping to see the actual show for Spring/Summer 09. Here are some photos- I will have more later.

Best Pink Lips for "Beauties of Color"

Usually when Allure magazine totes "matches all skintones" or " universally flattering" or something along these lines, I pay them no mind. I love the mag but they hardly ever feature a beauty of color in its editorials much less the cover so that we can test and try the products seen on them- that's a whole 'nother issue.
They did get this one right. In the October Best of Beauty issue. Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited PK 358 is listed as " Best Sheer" in the mag is actually ( according to moi) the Best Pink lipstick for Beauties of Color.
It is sheer so it doesnt cake on and it has buildable coverage ( which is great for work and play) most importantly- it doesn't make you look like you are straight out of Saved by the Bell with the boldness and it lasts for 8 hours.
You can find it at Neiman Marcus , Saks Fifth Avenue and www.shuuemura-usa.com

Heidi- No

Victoria's Secret released the Heidi Klum Very Sexy Makeup collection today.
Unfortunately for me- I tested it yesterday.
The consensus, Heidi NO. Unless you want to look like you are impersonating drag, the glitter, shimmer and frost is a no. And even if you were going the drag route, you would probably not want to mess with a chunky giltter liner like this one- its destined to ruin your corneas. The lipstick is tacky and the only thing going for this collection is the eye pallete.. then again, the company forgot that they released one just like this but under another name.
Heidi why? You know you don't wear this junk, so why are you trying to sell it? Please stick to your print, runway, Project Runway and musical talents- I loved the holiday album.
Victoria's Secret- Why didn't you make a Giselle Very Sexy Makeup collection before you let her contract expire/
I would have preferred beachy to queeny anyday.

Yves Saint Laurent's Elle

I just got back from Paris and I'm recovering from walking, shopping, talking,Nuit Blanche, Jardin de Tulleries and my visit to the Basque Country.
Lots to share! Pics, stories and of course...Maquillage ( Makeup) and Fragrance.
First off, I'm going to share the fragrance of my dreams...literally. Yves Saint Laurent's Elle, its what I call the jeunesse fragrance- along the lines of My Dior Cherie by Dior and Chance by Chanel.
Normally, I am not enamored by Fragrances but this one hit the spot. Its fruity sophisticated mixed with Jasmin,Freesia and Pink Berry's- I can't wait to wear my samples. The Galleries Lafayette had an event for the fragrance which equaled beaucoup de samples.
Elle should be out in the states come November.

My Milan Fashion Week Lemming

Yes, it is Milano fashion week. No, I haven't covered any of it... yet.
But when checking out Style.com, I ran across Blumarine's eye-catching slip dress. The lace detail around the edges and the fluidity of the material turns my eyes into saucers.
Natasha Poly was first on the runway with a yellow one but the colors that caught my eye were the lavendar and the fuschia worn by Isabeli Fontana.
Now would Iwhere this as a dress? Not in public. But its so beautiful- I just had to share with you.

Welcome Back Shu!

Shu Uemura has returned to Sephora!
Well..at least to Sephora.com.
Th cult classic Shu Uemura Eyelash curler is back too! And they are introducing us to some other goodies.
Gloss Lacquer looks promising, I can't wait to try the fucshia to see the color pay off.
What I'm really hoping to try is the Deep Sea Water. When Shu was at my local Sephora in Fashion Valley they had these. I tried it on my hand and walked out the store. I figured.. this was useless but I was wrong. It moisturized my hand surprisingly so I'm anxious to try it again.

Lacroix's Going To Paris

That's right! I'll be in the City of Lights just in time for Fashion Week this year. Starting October 2nd I will be in Paris.
I'll be giving you the latest on Fashion and Beauty while away. Gearing up for my trip has been a challenge, the last time I went to Europe, I was at least allowed to bring some bottled water. Now I'm struggling with what to bring and what to buy when I get to my destination. Should I buy my Caudalie here or there?

Cavalli for H&M- November 8th

Get ready to mow someone down...j/k of course.
Cavalli for H&M would be perfect for all of you show stopping partyers that will parlay during the holidays.
Expect lots of leopard print, metallics, golds, pinks and silvers. Also expect the line to enter the store to be out the door and around the block.
Last year I participated in the Viktor and Rolf for H&M opening at the Beverly Center. It was one of the best experiences ever! I don't know if I will be hanging out of the store this year for Cavalli.. though I need a nice b-day and holiday dress..hmm.

30% off Simply Vera for Kohls

"Simply Vera is already 30% off on the Kohls website, and it hasn't even been out for ten days".- Fashionista.com

Is this all sorts of wrong?
Or is it all sorts of right?

Upon hearing about the Kohl's and Vera collabo, I knew it was too good to be true. But then I checked out the line and it was. Why was I going to buy a Metallic skirt for $98?

Simply ridiculous

Temperley for Target is here!!

Rest assured, this collection will have a piece (or two) for you.
After the highly anticipated and major disappointment of the Libertine collection, Temperley set my mind at ease.
I love the Edwardian feel, the ruffled collars that are a throw back to the Prince circa "1999" era, and the wearability. The color palette for the clothes are just what the fall needs. Black, Grey, Navy with touches of Fuschia, Yellow and Peach.
Since the store closest to my place manages to get a lot of the dresses from the Go collection, I decided to hit it up first and managed to snag a Black dress short-sleeve dress with a ruffle front for $30 and a Black and White Leaf sweater for $30 as well.
Snap this stuff up, Temperley for Target will be as in demand as Proenza Schouler was!

What's going through my mind now: Flight of the Conchords

'Foux Da Fa Fa'

Heatherette NY Fashion Week Spring '08

Dearest Traver and Richie,

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. For you have made my little heart a-flutter, here is why:
Thank you for having 10..not a token , not 3 but 10 women of color open your Spring '08 show. This made me feel valued as a consumer ( because I will continue to buy your clothes), as a woman ( did I mention that your clothes are phenom?) and as a young person.. why? because while some shows are upper crust snob where you crack a smile and its shunned- you displayed youth and happiness in fashion.
ps. it was nice to see Omahayra in your show too ;)

Many Thanks,

Lacroix
